What We Have Developed:
Ceremonies which incorporate traditional and contemporary readings -Wedding ceremonies of diverse sorts, from those with "Simple Elegance" to others which involve many family members and friends.
Events, which reinterpret old customs in ways which give them a contemporary meaning. For example, in the Chinese wedding ceremony, the bride serves the groom's family tea, to show that she is now there to serve them. Dr. Genn suggested to the couple that they both serve tea to both families, thereby showing the union of the families, and not that any are servants of others.
- Creative responses to unique conditions. Rabbi Genn once officiated in a hospital room, so that the bride's father could be al the ceremony, despite his battling cancer. On another occasion he suggested that the wedding party take seats during the ceremony, since the Bride's Priest was confined to a wheel chair. In that way, all were on the same level.
